Jube School Presents: Sing Your Song: Storytelling through Songwriting with Alixandra Cowman

In this workshop, students will collaborate to create a new song by drawing inspiration from their surroundings. Using what they see, hear, and experience, they will work together to craft lyrics that reflect their shared observations and emotions.

Recommended grades: 3-6

Supplies needed: Paper and pencils

About the artist: Alixandra Cowman (she/her) is an award-winning composer and theatre artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta). She is constantly interested in discovering how music and sound can enhance, influence, and alter live storytelling. Her original compositions have been featured in Alberta Kitchen Party (Alberta Theatre Projects); Parts & Labour (Fieldwork); and House (Seadreamer no Productions). Alixandra's original musical written with playwright Cayley Wreggitt entitled Home For The Holidays received its world premiere at Lunchbox Theatre in December 2022. Home For The Holidays received 2 Betty Mitchell Awards for both Best Sound Design/Composition and Best Musical. Currently, she is in the midst of writing a horror-inspired folk musical set around Christmas with playwright Kodie Rollan, entitled Little Elves. Alixandra can usually be found strumming some instrument or another in whatever beam of sunlight she can find, a cup of coffee within arm's reach.

Upon registration, a Zoom link will be provided through email approximately 24 hours before the event with a passcode.

  • If you sign up after the code has been sent out (less than 24 hours before the event,) a code will be emailed to you 1 hour before.
